I tried Aldi's £4 dupe of a £28 Olaplex silver shampoo and my hair changed colour after one wash

Having used both silver shampoos from Olaplex and Aldi, I put them to the test

Having brassy blonde hair can be a pain if you're wanting that icy blonde look - take it from me, I've been bleaching my hair for years!

I've had some hair disasters whilst being blonde, including ridiculously yellow looking hair, to hair that looks blue because I've used too much silver shampoo. It can be difficult to reach that happy medium of a clean icy blonde without spending loads of money on a posh silver shampoo.

Back in April last year, I tried out the Olaplex silver shampoo and generally wasn't that keen. I found that the product clung to certain parts of my hair, including my root, and that made my hair colour look inconsistent all around.

Of course, to an extent that's unavoidable if you've got different tones of blonde in your hair, but for £26 at the time (now £28) I was expecting a miracle. Thankfully, Aldi has come through with yet another dupe that will save our bank balances massively.

The Lacura Bonded Purple Shampoo is priced at £3.99 and formulated with violet pigments to remove brassy tones. I managed to get my hands on a bottle and it's safe to say that I'm pretty impressed.

So in terms of the aesthetics, it's pretty clear to see that the Lacura shampoo is a dupe for the Olaplex £28 silver shampoo. Although the bottle has different branding, it's pretty much identical in terms of bottle shape.

I've always found silver shampoos really difficult to 'lather' up in the hair, and sadly, I had the same problem with this Aldi shampoo. Perhaps it's due to my technique or the strength of the purple shampoo that makes it less soapy.

However, that didn't put me off the Aldi version, as it was pretty expected. I was actually really impressed with the scent of this Aldi silver shampoo too, which was quite fruity.

The Olaplex silver shampoo has more of a posh salon scent, but I actually preferred the fresh tropical scent of the Aldi version. On the back of the bottle it's advised to leave the product on your hair for a few minutes if you want a stong grey look, so I left mine on for two - three minutes.

I was a little worried that the shampoo was going to make my hair knotty and dry, as a lot of silver shampoos do, but this one didn't at all. My hair actually felt super soft after applying my usual Olaplex conditioner, which I was really glad about.

Even when my hair was wet, I could tell how strong this shampoo was. It wasn't until I dried it, though, that I'd noticed just how much the colour of my hair had changed.

My hair not only looked a lot brighter and blonder, but very shiny too. Although naturally the shampoo clung to some parts of my hair more than others, overall, the change was pretty drastic.

I would say if you're only wanting to target the brassy parts of your hair in a subtle way, don't leave this on for longer than a minute. It's seriously strong, and for the price, that's pretty amazing!

For the price, I'll definitely be making the swap considering this shampoo works the same, if not better than the Olaplex original. The scent is absolutely glorious but I wish it would lather up a little more.
